North Highlands Nordic invites all cross country skiers to participate in the Annual Cross Country Ski Loppet on Sunday, March 12th. There are short and long distances to choose from, and skiers can choose to skate or classic. The pace is also the choice of the skier. Loppet starts at 11am, and registration must take place before 10am. A chili meal and desserts and chance at draw prizes are included in the registration fee. There has been a variety of clothing items left behind this season.
Daniel Murray and Ian Murray represented North Highlands Nordic Ski Club in the Gatineau Loppet in Gatineau, Quebec on February 18th and 19th. Daniel ranked 1st in a 27km skate race out of 170 men, with an official time of 01:16:48.2. In the 51km classic race, Daniel ranked 18th out of 384 men. Ian Murray ranked 4th in the 51km classic raceout of 384 men, with an official time of 02:23:30.5. In the 51km skate race, Ian ranked 2nd out of 273 men.
The Gatineau Loppet was two beautiful, sunny days of skiing with 1000s of skiers at all levels from all over the world competing on the gorgeous trails of Gatineau Park. Joining in from Nova Scotia were Mark Campbell, John Cameron, Pierre Roy, Paul Newton, Dan McNeil and Susan McClure – cheered on by Colin Ward, Fiona and Maggie McClure – saving their racing legs for races this coming weekend.
